Youth Taking Flight is a youth-serving organization dedicated to providing engaging and impactful STEM educational experiences for at-risk youth with particular focus on Black, Indigenous, People of Colour ages 12 -24. Within a dynamic, relational framework, we encourage creativity and facilitate specialized skills training while delivering meaningful programs that promote positive growth in young people.
Founded in 2017, Youth Taking Flight continues to provide engaging learning experiences for youth ages 12-24 in the fields of Aerospace and Aviation, Digital Literacy, Workplace Skills Development, Leadership and Mentorship Training. We promote youth participation in every aspect of program planning and delivery.
YTF engages youth through interactive learning; supports youth wellness; helps youth build a support network between peers; links youth to mentors in STEM; exposes youth to new pathways and potential careers in STEM, while increasing the awareness of the achievements of black innovators in Canada and around the world.
To work with youth, particularly those at risk, to promote positive self-development
To promote the increased involvement and participation of black, indigenous and youth of colour in STEM learning
To create a platform for youth to network, share ideas, and build positive support systems
To develop youth leaders and mentors.
To achieve gender parity in all programs promoting involvement of girls in STEM
To provide affordable programs for youth
To expose youth to new pathways and potential careers in STEM
